Ines Tancré was born and raised in Germany.

After finishing her studies with a PhD in Linguistics and Philosophy she started the nomad lifestyle of a diplomat’s wife that lead her to live in Iran, Korea, Sierra Leone, Canada, Norway, Italy, Afghanistan, the USA and Austria.

The constant changes of locations and their particular cultural environments asking for personal re-orientation triggered most different, though interrelated and re-occurring themes of her work: the interweaving of present and past in the process of perception, the tension between opposites, between surface and underlying structure, and the enigma resulting from their overlays.

Photography - an integral part of her mixed media work - changes its reference to reality through artistic manipulation.

Ines Tancré has shown her work internationally. As co-founder of GermanAmericanArtists, 2005, she is representing the group outside of the USA.
